Seville

Seville, have you ever thought about it?

Have you ever thought about a trip to Seville?

If your answer is no, now it’s the time to think about it. In this post I will tell you why to go there and when.

Why Seville?

Seville is unique. Its atmospheres are unmatched in the world. You will find a perfect combination of dense history, profound culture, architecture and the enthusiasm of those who live there.

Seville is located in southern Spain. It’s the capital of Andalusia and it’s one of the most important cities in the Country. Its origins have Roman and Arab influences.

Magellan’s expedition

Can you imagine the great exploration period? Seville it is crossed by the waters of the Guadalquivir river. It was from here that Magellan’s epic expedition set off to tackle the first circumnavigation of the world. If you want to immerse yourself in that era, just enter the Archivo General de Indias.

Happiness and folklore

Seville means also happiness, music and folklore. It is the city that comes alive at evening time on the notes of flamenco, especially in the Triana district. The Holy Week and the Feria de Abril fill the streets of Seville with colours, life and celebrations every spring.

Amazing monuments and movie sets

The city is famous for its monuments and historic buildings, such as the Seville Cathedral, Torre del Oro or the Real Alcázar. The atmosphere of Seville is so particular that it has been chosen as set of real movies colossal. Game of Thrones was filmed in the courtyards of the Real Alcázar. While if you go to the incredible Plaza de España you will enter the Star Wars set, as it really seems like walking in a pharaonic monument from another planet. There are not only impressive monuments but also many parks and gardens, including Maria Luisa Park, one of the largest and most beautiful parks in the city.

Gastronomy

Finally, the gastronomy of Seville is unique, with traditional dishes such as salmorejo and gazpacho, very tasty fresh dishes particularly appreciated in spring and summer. You will have plenty of choices between bars and restaurants serving tapas, small dishes to share with friends and family.

WHICH IS THE BEST PERIOD TO GO?

Seville is a city that can be visited any time of the year, depending on your preferences and your travel plans. Spring is probably the best season to go. The weather is mild and the city is in full bloom. April has many traditional celebrations and holidays. Summer can be very hot. Autumn is another good season to visit Seville, temperatures are still pleasant and less crowded than in spring. Winter is mild and rain is not rare.
