I’m in Piedmont region in a country house up on a hillside surrounded by vineyards. I chat with my godmother. She is her mid eighty. The TV News in background talks about the US – Russia crisis, of the economic crisis and many other similar news.
She looks at me and she starts telling me:
“You know what? I really do not understand. I remember clearly those days of the Second World War when I was young. We had nothing, and if I say nothing, I really mean nothing. We were suffering hunger and to have some winter cloths we had to do it by ourselves with the wool taken from our mattresses. The nowadays technology did not exist, nor we were imaging it. Today we have everything, but really everything, and, even if nothing is missing in our lives, we live in a permanent state of crisis. Maybe there is a difference from now and those times. After the war, we had to be strong and to reconstruct a country from the ashes and we had the right politicians to do it. Today I really cannot explain what is going on”.
Indeed, there is no proper explanation.
